Most of you have probably heard of
Twitter, the micro-blogging platform where you share updates in 140 characters or less.
Places like
Summit Church are using it to keep people updated on events and stuff happening in the church. If you're interested in learning more about using twitter as a ministry communication tool, check out some of these blog posts at
ChurchCrunch.
Besides communicating info about upcoming events to people, Twitter can also be a great tool to keep people connected to mission teams as they are serving in other cities, states or countries.
Spirit of Joy Church in Orlando currently has a team of 10 serving in Burundi, Africa. This is the third time a team from the church has been to the small African country but it's the first time they are using twitter to keep the church back in Orlando updated on what they are doing.
In previous trips, the team would try and send an email every few days but this trip, someone took a phone with international minutes and has been updating those of us back home atleast once a day, even with pictures. They are doing all of this from a
twitter account one of the team members set-up.
The twitter feed is also embedded the feed on the church's
website and linked to a Facebook account so the news can be spread even to people that don't use twitter.
Next time you go on a mission trip, consider using twitter to keep people updated back home and get the word out to others about what God is doing through your serving to change lives.
