You are touching on an issue that I didn't fully name but that I feel strongly about and it is in fact why I put this discussion up. I want what we do, do, to be successful, to be something that is worshipful. There is a part of me that would LOVE I…

Matthew, I am in a rural community that instituted "contemporary" worship about six years ago on a once-a-month basis. Having just started here, I have gotten a lot of the history of what has happened recently, and I think it might be something for…

I started in a new congregation in August of 2009 and since day one I have heard from some vocal leaders that they feel the congregation MUST put into action a “Contemporary Worship Service” in order to keep the “younger families” from leaving the c…

Profile Information

How are you involved in worship?
Visual Worship, Musical Worship, Worship Design
An aspect of creative worship you are passionate about?
Using all the senses we can to echo the message of scripture readings that are being read that day.
A challenge when planning creative worship?
Balancing the tension between "traditional" and "modern" along with the preferences different people have for music and style.
A favorite creative moment in worship?
I wrote a narrative celebration of the last supper that was then "performed" by the entire congregation sitting at different tables. This was a dramatic reading style presentation used during Holy Week and held in a high school Home Econ. room because the congregation didn't have a worship building as they were a mission congregation. I loved how the congregation went with the creative celebration of Holy Communion even though many of them were unsure about what they were expected to do until they got to the service that night.

Linda, I think I have deleted a comment of yours by mistake!! My apologies. You can do what Stephen does. Talk to him about what is needed, or trawl around on his website. I think environmental projections would go great at a RED event. Its an easy…

Nice stuff Cyndi. I like the thinking you have done around what you do, before you do it! Not enough people make that kind of close contextualisation to their congregation. Nice.

Thanks, again, to Eric Herron for his "Show and Tell" post! Glad I could be a "guinea pig" for this new way to connect with others on the site. Anyway, I mentioned that I created a PowerPoint presentation to go with the Genesis 1 creation story. It…

This makes me think about what my high school jazz teacher said: "It is the silence between the notes that creates the rhythm." Saying this was one of the ways he motivated antsy, immature, 16 yr. old jazz musicians to stop playing so many notes wh…
