I love using "Now Behold The Lamb" during Lent, and one year we led off our Easter service with it. Kirk Franklin arrangement. Everyone comes in expecting crazy energy, and we lead with a song that builds slowly, full of emotion, ripe with image pos…

For me, when I get sick, my voice is totally gone. If I still want to try and sing, I don't talk unless absolutely necessary for about a day, and I suck on a lot of lemons. It doesn't help that much, but I learned it back in speech team in school, s…

Family

A number of things have been going on for me lately. First of all, a colleague of mine just had a baby - a little girl. Second of all, I just sorted through and watched a bunch of video footage of my son, who is now 14 months old. He gets cuter every time I see him. Thirdly, we have been planning the holiday season out, trying to squeeze in as much time with our entire family as possible. Indeed, family is priceless.

I find it a bit saddening that church has lost a lot of the "family" feel it h… Continue

Prelinger Archives

I'd like to share with you a resource that I've been using for a few years to make great videos for all kinds of occasions - The Prelinger Archives.

This is a public domain collection of film clips from the early 1920's through the 1980's. The link above will send you to the page where you can browse available clips by subject. You might find an old Ford commercial, or a social etiquette… Continue

Means and Ends

Last night, I read a fantastic portion of C.S. Lewis' "Screwtape Letters" in which Screwtape, an elderly devil, is writing to a junior devil about how best to confound a human into skepticism, materialism, and faithlessness. Screwtape defines humans as "amphibians" (half spirit, half animal), and argues that the best way to keep them from true faith is to confuse the ends and the means - specifically, to convince humans that Faith is simply the best means to bring about important Worldly ends, l… Continue

Are Funny Videos Good for Church?

So I just posted a video we created - an advertisement for the Fake Apology Player. We had been searching for a way to get at repentance and forgiveness that would engage people, and this idea seemed to work. It works because everyone is already aware of what it feels like to give and receive a fake apology. It drives us all crazy. So the humor of the video, in this case, works well as a sort of dark comedy of the truth of our relationships.

In general, I'm not a huge fan of funny vid… Continue

The Lousy Magician

I've just posted a new video called "The Lousy Magician." I think you should check it out.

I've often wondered how God must perceive some of the games we play around power and authority, how we in the church often seem like we have it all together and everything figured out. I sometimes feel like a lousy magician, like I'm on display and trying to make magic happen, but spiritual things in worship can't be forced, so it never goes right. So that is the birthplace of this video, which could be u… Continue

Thanks very much Logan. I'm still working on the worship curator model. I think it marks a significant positive move in understanding and delivering corporate worship. I'm trying to finish a book around the topic.
