Organizing/Tracking Media?

I'll have to take a look at that link. I'd prefer not to file them in something like iTunes. iTunes is for my music and it seems like it would just get messy. Also doesn't seem very conducive to an e…

You ask some great questions here, Eric. And I'm not sure that I have a ton of answers...all of this is stuff I've been wrestling with for a while. One thought that comes to mind is the role of leadership. In most churches today, people still look t…

I would agree with you 100%, Dan. I would expand intentionality beyond inclusivity though. I would also include intentionality about the visual elements we use, the songs we sing, the way we sing, the type of technology we use, all aspects really. F…

I think sometimes the intentional piece scares creatives or turns us off because we fear it will stifle our creativity. What we fail to recognize, however, is that we are already being intentional. We have a reason for creating the things we create…

I think these are all great, Josh. I would love to find a way to condense this list a little bit, but I haven't figured out how. I agree with all of the values listed. The only thing I would try to incorporate some how, and maybe it's in there right…

Welcome back, Josh! I'm sure those 70s & 80s are soooo hard to get used to. Must be rough :)

Don't be sorry for encouraging conversation, Linda! Conversation on these things is good and necessary. Through them I gain a better clarity of the beliefs that float around in my head. Stephen, if I'm understanding you correctly I think you put wo…

what a hoot! So sorry to have caused such a ruckus! LOL! Y'all can ask all the WHY questions you want! They are not illegal or unethical! Go for it! :) Obviously this is off-topic and I don't want to distract from Katie's great blog, but I'll expla…

Sorry, one more thought. I think asking "WHY" at the broadest level leads you to an understanding of the underlying principles. You can then take these principles and apply them to a variety of situations or environments. The others - what, how, whe…

I agree with Stephen - not sure about being trained NOT to ask "WHY" Linda, I think asking "how," "what," "when," "where," and "who," get you answers more quickly and can together give you a big picture understanding. I would agree with Stephen tho…

Linda, that's the most interesting thing i've heard in a while... the fact that in some professions, you are trained NOT to ask "why". i'm gonna have to think about that one for a while....not sure how that's going to sit with this rebel. ;) I want…

You can ask "WHY" questions, but I can't! Everytime I get ready to ask "WHY" I see sweet Mrs. Leona Gulley, my nursing instructor for my Mental Health semester, glaring at me!. During theraputic counseling and interview training you are not to ask "…

Visual Worship & Being the Church

I jumped in on a conversation Scott McLellan started over at the Collide blog (http://www.collidemagazine.com/blog/index.php/1567/for-churches-content-isnt-king) regarding content. His point: for churches, content isn’t king.

Like many other voices in the conversation I believe that we've bred a generation of Christians who care so much about the content and protecting the content that they forget th… Continue

God: A Motion Background or a Foreground Video?

Earlier this week, Stephen Proctor was sending crazy late night DMs on twitter. Anne Jackson (@flowerdust) had sparked a conversation on Twitter earlier in the day about coaching and mentoring. Proctor thought he’d be funny & say he was starting worshipVJ coaching network (by the way, his next DM said NOT!!!!!!!!!!! hahaha). That sparked a conversation though about coaching. Is it good? Necessary? That led into the whole idea of “church idols” (elevating someone in the church world who we th… Continue

Science VS Art

(I posted this on my blog but wanted to share here too)

On Saturday (Dec. 5th) at 4:58pm Stephen Proctor a.k.a. @worshipvj dropped this tweet: attn media peeps: which would best describe yourself? a lot of science with a littler art - or - a lot of art with a little science? My initial response to Stephen was “honestly think i’m about half science half art rt now & lk it. i was science bf i was art, but gain a better balance everyday”

That question has been pestering me since Saturday. To… Continue

A Different Form of Visual Worship?

I went to a Thanksgiving celebration service tonight. It was a trip back to my roots as it was a much more traditional service. All hymns. Piano. Organ. Children's choir singing. The works. Wasn't sure I would enjoy that type of worship again, but I did. And as I sat looking around the church, I had a thought about visual worship.

You see, there were decorations EVERYWHERE. Every window sill. On the altar. Around the altar. Around the pulpit. Around the lectern. Everywhere. There were pumpkins… Continue

Nice stuff Cyndi. I like the thinking you have done around what you do, before you do it! Not enough people make that kind of close contextualisation to their congregation. Nice.

This makes me think about what my high school jazz teacher said: "It is the silence between the notes that creates the rhythm." Saying this was one of the ways he motivated antsy, immature, 16 yr. old jazz musicians to stop playing so many notes wh…
