I work in an extremely traditional congregation. While there are many in our church, let alone beyond our walls, who are hungry for fresh rejuvenated creative worship, it is very difficult to break the Western understanding of what Sunday morning should look and feel like.

Jason,
At a baptismal service I officiated at on July 4, I combined Ukranian Orthodox customs with our ELW rite. Several Ukranians were part of the service. Afterward I invited conversation among those attending about how they perceived the baptism to be enhanced (or not) by these additions. As you might guess, they were unanimous that it was enhanced. Most of the additions included sensory experiences and movement. Young and old alike found these to be helpful in deepening the experience of the baptism.
All for now.

You know, I have had it in the back of my mind to start a conversation about just that but I have not felt like I have had the rootedness to follow up on it. I am agree we need to get together. I was out at the camp I used to work at as the pastor last week, and I would say it was the best worship experience Ive had in about ten years.
We have to talk sometime, and yes, get our boys together. Crowder, Webb, Redman - I want to talk with you about what music you're using right now that actually works. And to find out if you're still playing any shows. Call me.

Nice stuff Cyndi. I like the thinking you have done around what you do, before you do it! Not enough people make that kind of close contextualisation to their congregation. Nice.
Thanks, again, to Eric Herron for his "Show and Tell" post! Glad I could be a "guinea pig" for this new way to connect with others on the site. Anyway, I mentioned that I created a PowerPoint presentation to go with the Genesis 1 creation story. It…
This makes me think about what my high school jazz teacher said: "It is the silence between the notes that creates the rhythm."
Saying this was one of the ways he motivated antsy, immature, 16 yr. old jazz musicians to stop playing so many notes wh…
