Thanks for posting this, Eric! I can't wait to see what other folks are up to!

This makes me think about what my high school jazz teacher said: "It is the silence between the notes that creates the rhythm." Saying this was one of the ways he motivated antsy, immature, 16 yr. old jazz musicians to stop playing so many notes wh…

Whoa, Linda. You are so right. Maybe we should take the liberty of changing it to "Imago Tres"?
on Thursday
Oh, but Imago Dei was only listed twice. Maybe three times is more in the context of Imago Dei?

You are welcome, Linda S! We could easily add Imago Dei to that list...DONE! (actually, it was already there - I think your eyes missed it.)

I am salivating at the idea of Clayfires "Collections in Virtual Galleries". You mentioned that the "Galleries include: Church Year, Soul, Kingdom, Imago Dei, Art Beauty & Culture, Imago Dei, Bible, and Community." Maybe you could add Imago Dei to…

Awesome, Mark. I like the idea of "worship imitating art". I think this is also a nice contrast to "art serving worship" (as Nicholas Walterstorff has promoted). I just read an article called "Theater for an Audience of One" [read it here]. It is a…

That's funny Bryan! Your last statement makes me think of that poem by C.S. Lewis called "Footnote to All Prayers".

I'll never forget the time I meant to say I was embarrassed in Spanish, but ended up saying I'm pregnant. Not good in the mis-translation. I'm so glad that we have a spiritual interpreter for us through His Spirit. If it weren't for Him, I wonder wh…

What a great idea. Rev. 3:20 comes to mind, too: "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me." (Nice pun by the way... "this neighborhood public art project…

Who said this? I was surprised to learn that it was something Pope Paul VI said in 1964. With a bit of reflection, I decided that maybe this comment isn’t so strange coming from a Roman Catholic Pope. After all, some of the richest art in Church hi…

Expose Yourself to Worship

Have you ever been misunderstood? This is a silly question. Of course you have. We all have. The nature of language is such that even those who are (supposedly) speaking the same one, often receive an unintended message. I think communication breakdowns occur not just for language problems, but even more often simply because we are not listening to one another. This is unfortunate.

However, many mis-understandings do occur for very understandable reasons.

Art for the Spiritually Blind

"Our ministry needs your collaboration. In our ministry we must preach, make understandable and accessible the world of the spirit, the invisible world of God. And in this operation of expressing the invisible world of the spirit in accessible, intelligible terms, you (the artists) are the masters..."1

Found In Translation

I just joined a new social media site called Xiha Life.

I read about Xiha in the latest issue of Wired. (Xiha means “fun” or “happy” in Mandarin and “hip hop” in Cantonese.) Clive Thompson has written an intriguing little piece about this online community.

Xiha Life has many of the same functions as other soci

Building: A Ritual

There is an interesting TED talk by David Byrne (yep, the one from Talking Heads) about architecture and music. No, it is not just about acoustics - although this science definitely plays a part in what he shares. Byrne shares about the connection between the physical characteristics of a space and the effect these have on the kind of music we compose to be played in them. Take a few minutes to

Eric I think my theology is based on a community approach. Why do we gather as a community to worship? What is the purpose? Can't we just read the bible and pray at home? Listen to CD's? Does God speak through the community? Is it biblical that the minister acts as a CEO of the church? What is the difference between communal worship and preformance?
Personally I feel that worship is a place to corporately bring our hearts and minds together in united worship. Some on this list may however not agree with me on this.

Eric I am a participant in worship. I have no other role except that occassionally I have lead worship in a tiny church in San Diego when I lived there many years ago and have lead the communion service at the little liturgical worship service held once a month that I go to. I have however praticipated in worship since my parents were able to take me as an infant. I have attended a variety of types of worship services over the years. I generally try to attend a Christian church when away traveling. It gives me a broad experience of what is happening in different places. l discusss worship and what is meaningful to congregations on a regular basis with my friends.
John Leech of this list enlisted me and I accepted. I certainly enjoyed seeing the paintings of the prodigal son.

I love exploring who God is. I find that when I explore current day parables I discover aspects of God that I had never connected with before, and I love sharing God in this way. (read my blog "the story" on CWT) Red started in 2003 and I kept the web site weekly updated until 2005 then reality . . . ! we still are alive and kicking, I just don't update the website weekly, but I have years of stuff to put on it! Red came from the original old warehouse room we met in was painted red. red walls. red floors. So red! Of course I love the name now. inspiRED, empoweRED, cREDo and REDeemed! to name a few. I am the pastor and we've been "homeless" for the past 2 years . . . and do a bit of gorilla/guerilla worship. But I just authorized my realtor to place an offer on a 3-yr lease on a place on Main Street. I think we'll call this place PLANET ALTEred. : )
here's a quick link to why "red" http://instantred.com/weeklyred111304.htm

So, tell me a little bit more about your church. I am intrigued after visiting the web site. How did it start? Where did "Red" come from? What is your particular role in the community?
