Creative Worship Tour

Wondering if anyone would like to join in making a list of songs used in the past or song that you are considering working into your worship set for Easter 2010.

Here are a few that I am considering or have used:

1. Jesus Messiah - Tomlin
2. Magnificent - U2
3. Jesus Saves - Hughes
4. Happy Day - Crowder

Thanks for starting this conversation...never too early!

Any of these three could be great opening songs - quiet and dramatic start with big finishes...
I Will Rise - Tomlin
True Love - Phil Wickham - Northland Church in Orlando made this video for their backwall screen:

Jesus Saves - Travis Cottrell (another Northland video, a little more traditional of a song but powerful)

I'll keep thinking about more...everybody else, join in too!

Love the Northland videos! I am thinking of doing Kirk Franklin's "Don't Cry" with my choir. Also on my list Jesus Paid it All (Kristian Stanfill's version), The Wonderful Cross ( Phillips Craig and Dean), Here is our King
(David Crowder), He Lives ( Lakewood). Trying to finalize how much music/preaching we are doing. How much corporate vs. special, etc...

Hey, just logged back onto this side after a while!

I work at a church that has been "traditional" for hundreds of years and has just now brought on this new style of multi-sensory worship. Here are the songs I am using this year for Easter:

These are the songs the congregation will learn:

1. Once Again - Matt Redman
2. Worthy Is The Lamb/Crown Him With Many Crowns - Hillsong/Travis Cottrell (artists)
3. Saviour King - Mia Fields/Marty Sampson
4. Revelation Song (They already know this one)

During times of reflection/special music/whatever we will be doing:
1. How Deep The Father's Love
2. In Christ Alone with a Solid Rock mix
3. At The Cross -

thanks melissa and lindsay for the ideas...i love kirk franklin - we did hosanna a while back - which could work for easter too. the mix of worthy is the lamb with crown him with many crowns, especially singing verse two of crown him would be powerful too:

Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o'er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save.
His glories now we sing,
who died, and rose on high,
who died, eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.

Thanks for sharing

I was a worship pastor in the D.C. area for 12 years so I have a lot of black gospel tunes under my belt as well:))

Here is a fun one if you haven't done it.

I love using "Now Behold The Lamb" during Lent, and one year we led off our Easter service with it. Kirk Franklin arrangement. Everyone comes in expecting crazy energy, and we lead with a song that builds slowly, full of emotion, ripe with image possibilities. Plenty to play with in terms of soloist, choir, congregation singing. Traditional, yet can be arranged very modern. I love the arrangement on Kirk Franklin's Christmas album. Check it out.

A few years ago I had the pleasant discovery that the words from the classic Easter Hymn "He Lives" fit nicely into the lyrical form of "Days of Elijah." I rewrote the chorus (yes there's a "doth" in there- I like the way it sounds) and voila! A new Song for Easter that everyone can sing boldly cause they know the words and the tune and yet it's NEW. And then you throw in the original chorus to end tying the resurrection to his coming. Good stuff.

DAYS OF ELIJAH (EASTER)
Chos:
BEHOLD HE LIVES
CONQUEROR OF THE GRAVE
DEATH HAS LOST IT'S STING
DYING ONCE HE ALL DOTH SAVE
SO ENTER IN THE FATHER BIDS YOU COME
ALL HONOR UNTO JESUS CHRIST THE SON

I SERVE A LIVING SAVIOR
HE'S IN MY HEART TODAY
I KNOW THAT HE IS WITH ME
WHATEVER MEN MAY SAY
I SEE HIS HAND OF MERCY
I HEAR HIS VOICE OF CHEER
AND JUST THE MOMENT I NEED HIM I KNOW
IN MY HEART HE'S ALWAYS NEAR

IN ALL THE WORLD AROUND ME
I SEE HIS LOVING CARE
AND THO MY HEART GROWS WEARY
I NEVER WILL DESPAIR
I KNOW THAT HE IS LEADING
THROUGH THE STORMY BLAST
AND THE GREAT DAY OF HIS SWEET APPEARING
WILL FINALLY COME AT LAST

BEHOLD HE COMES
RIDING ON THE CLOUDS
SHINING LIKE THE SUN
AT THE TRUMPET CALL
LIFT YOUR VOICE IT'S THE YEAR OF JUBILEE
OUT OF ZIONS HILL SALVATION COMES

Linda, I think I have deleted a comment of yours by mistake!! My apologies. You can do what Stephen does. Talk to him about what is needed, or trawl around on his website. I think environmental projections would go great at a RED event. Its an easy…

Nice stuff Cyndi. I like the thinking you have done around what you do, before you do it! Not enough people make that kind of close contextualisation to their congregation. Nice.

Thanks, again, to Eric Herron for his "Show and Tell" post! Glad I could be a "guinea pig" for this new way to connect with others on the site. Anyway, I mentioned that I created a PowerPoint presentation to go with the Genesis 1 creation story. It…

This makes me think about what my high school jazz teacher said: "It is the silence between the notes that creates the rhythm." Saying this was one of the ways he motivated antsy, immature, 16 yr. old jazz musicians to stop playing so many notes wh…
