#99 - Hold on to your "planned" service lightly. Be sensitive to the moving of God and be flexible to completely change everything. That means cancelling plan A . . to . . Z and all other "back-up" messages and plans, and rely totally on God's Spirit to use you and speak through you. Hang on tight! It will be the ride of your life, but the best trip you've ever had!

Be prepared. You want to be free to experience the presence of God with the community. If you are not well rehearsed and ready you may just get in the way of the Spirit's activity in worship.

Be the lead worshiper, not just the worship leader. Worship! Try not to let the logistics of the service get in the way.

#95 - There will always be someone who dislikes your tastes, disagrees with your decisions, or suspects your motives. God will always love you and be pleased with your honest attempt to serve him. Seek to be pleased by God's delight in you, not by the approval of others. Learn to forgive as Christ forgave.

Steve, its a great point but a hard one to actually carry out. I know a lot of worship leaders also are in charge of the media team and all the other creative stuff that happens on a weekend. Taking some time to equip and empower volunteers will free you up to be that lead worshiper. You have any suggestions on how to do that?

Josh,

I wasn't really talking about catering to people inside vs. outside the church, though I do think that's a fertile area for discussion. Actually, I was riffing on something Rob Bell spoke about at the recent National Pastors' Convention, as reported on OutofUr.com. (I only read the website; I didn't go to the convention.) If we don't learn to forgive, we become fearful of criticism, quenching our sense of adventure. We also can become bitter or resentful, not good attitudes to have if we're trying to lead worship authentically.

#92 - Maybe an adendum for Steve Brown's tip... Congregations are like ropes, You can lead them anywhere you are willing to go but you will never push them anywhere.

You can only lead people as far as you're willing to lead yourself.
91) Be in the word of God every morning...
90) prioritize integrity in your relationships and personal lives...
89) be the same on stage as you are off. People can sniff out acting from a mile away. unless, I suppose, you're really really good.
90) Exercise and eat healthy
